This past weekend, I had the immense pleasure of photographing the wedding of my niece, Beth. She’s the only daughter of Jim’s older sister, and the first Key grandchild to get married. Her new husband, Aaron, is one of the kindest young men I’ve met, and he treats Beth with such tender care, it makes my heart melt to see them together.
My wedding gift to Beth and Aaron was the photography, but I wanted to give them something tangible before the ceremony. Beth’s flowers were calla lilies, and while in California with Jim the week prior, I spotted two lone calla lilies in the gardens of the Winchester Mystery House. As I fired up my macro lens, I knew immediately I would use the photos to create something for Beth and Aaron. This is the result.
I used the verse from Song of Solomon 3:4 – “For I have found the one my heart loves.” – and played around with my new favorite font, La Veronique, to create a fun and funky word art. After adding their names and the date of their wedding, I printed it at 8×10 and framed it with a white mat and black frame.
Beth’s eyes lit up when I gave it to them, but it was Aaron’s reaction that caught me off guard. He gasped, staring at the print, and turned to me with big eyes and an bigger grin, saying “Oh my word, I love it! This is great!” It’s not every day I can get that kind of reaction out of a 20-year-old guy. I’ll call this one a win!
