I have a really bad habit of getting to the airport with plenty of time to spare, and then using the extra time to walk the terminal for some exercise. None of that is bad, of course, but the fact that my eyes tend to wander to the shops along the way, and things catch my eye … well, that’s bad.
Normally, it’s just a pack of gum or a pulpy magazine. A few weeks ago, it was the travel blanket that has turned into my most valuable travel companion. But today … it was something else, something much more expensive.
I was walking past the big bookstore in Terminal C at DFW Airport, and from their display of hardcover books, one title jumped straight out at me. I don’t know if it’s the beautiful red cover, or the fact that I quickly recognized the author’s name in gold at the top, but I immediately made a beeline for the display… promptly cutting in front of several people along the way. (Sorry!)
The book is the beautiful next novel from Kate Mosse, titled Sepulchre. I spent WAY too much money on it, given that I spent cover price – hard cover cover price – on it at an airport bookshop, but it caught my attention, and I just had to have it.
I know Kate Mosse from her previous book, Labyrinth, which was absolutely fantastic. It’s best described as a “woman’s adventure story”, a time-slip tale that takes place split across 800 years, and involves the search for the Holy Grail. You learn so much about the fight between the Cathars and the Catholics, and … well, let’s just say that the storytelling is amazing. It’s a fabulous read.
The reviews on Amazon for Sepulchre aren’t encouraging, but then again, there’s only two of them out there right now … and I rarely agree with the critics. So I’m going to read this with an open mind and see what I think. Ah, a new book … there’s nothing so delicious as having a whole new book, just waiting to be devoured!!!
